Week 1 - Year 6 SELECTIVE FUNDAMENTALS COURSE

 

The Year 6 SELECTIVE FUNDAMENTALS COURSE will start on Monday, January 15th, 2024. This comprehensive program will encompass all the essential topics required for Maths, Reading, Writing and Thinking Skills to prepare students for the 2024 selective high school exam.

 

In each lesson, Mr. Paul will comprehensively review fundamental question topics, allowing students to solidify their understanding of each test component and strengthen their foundational knowledge. This course is designed to instil confidence in students as they prepare for the exam. We will also analyse past selective test papers throughout the week.

WEEK 1 - Daily Timetable:

9:00 AM - 9:10 AM - Admin (10 mins)

9:10 AM - 10:15 AM - Writing in-depth explanation and writing activity. 

Break 15 mins

10:30 AM - 12 AM - Thinking Skills explanation and Thinking skills activity (1 hour 30 mins)

Lunch break 40 minutes

12:40 PM - 1:40 PM - Reading Comprehension x2, Poetry Analysis, Gapped text.

Break 20 mins

2 PM - 3 PM - Mathematical Reasoning explanations and activity (60 mins)

Week 2 SELECTIVE TESTING COURSE

 

Designed specifically for Year 6 students, this comprehensive 5-day course will provide a final boost of practice and preparation before the important tests.

 

Each day, students will take tests in Reading, Mathematical Reasoning, Thinking Skills and Writing, followed by a thorough review of all the questions to enhance their learning experience.

By participating in our intensive Selective Test Preparation course, students will:

​

• Experience intensive exam practice: Complete 5 sets of tests, covering Reading, Mathematical Reasoning, Thinking Skills and Writing, across 5 days. Following each test, students will receive detailed review and explanations to reinforce their understanding of key concepts. All classes are recorded and students can access these videos at any time.

​​

• Familiarise themselves with exam-style questions: Gain valuable exposure to questions similar in style and complexity to those found in the actual Selective Placement Test. This familiarity will enable students to approach the exam confidently and with ease.

​​

• Identify areas for improvement: Our program aims to help students identify their weak areas, enabling them to allocate more focused study time to these specific topics. This targeted approach will enhance their overall performance and boost their chances of success.

• Develop efficient time management skills: Learn how to effectively manage time during exams, ensuring that they can complete all sections within the allocated timeframe. By practicing timed tests, students will reduce the likelihood of making careless mistakes due to time pressure.

• Build confidence and overcome exam nerves: Our experienced instructors provide a supportive learning environment that helps students overcome exam anxiety.
