Opportunity classes located in government primary schools cater for academically gifted Year 5 and Year 6 students with high potential. These classes help students to learn by grouping them with students of similar ability, using specialised teaching methods and educational materials at the appropriate level.

Students sit the OC Test in July of Year 4, for entry into Year 5.

There are fully selective, partially selective and agricultural high schools offering Year 7 placement throughout NSW.

There are 76 primary schools with opportunity classes across NSW.

Applications open in April and close May of Year 4.

Students will be tested on: ​ Reading Mathematical Reasoning and Thinking Skills ​ The test for 2021 will be computer-based and 60 minutes in length. It will be a continuous test with no breaks. The test will be structured as follows: ​ Reading - 14 multiple choice questions Mathematical Skills - 18 items multiple choice questions Thinking Skills - 18 multiple choice questions

The thinking skills test consists of 40 questions. Students have 40 minutes to complete the test.
